SINGLE REVIEW: Salient (OUTSIDE THE ACADEMY)

SONG: Salient ARTIST: Outside the Academy If you've been searching for a song to distract you from your worries, you may just fall in love with the latest single from Melbourne/Brisbane two-piece Outside the Academy. Fresh from their second EP 'Second-Guessing', 'Salient' is an ambient little number packed full of wistful lyrics, lush textures and some stellar mixing (courtesy of Brisbane legend Konstantin Kersting).

Outside the Academy began life as a solo project, the brain-child of producer Pawel Cholewa, and OTA have since evolved into a fascinating project armed with moody beats and diverse influences (Bonobo, Radiohead, and Silversun Pickups to name a few).

'Salient' is a lower octane outing than some of the other tracks on 'Second-Guessing'; an appropriate move given the wistful themes at its core. Cholewa deftly works in echoes and soaring guitars to capture "miscommunication and generational divides" - and I'm gonna guess it's the dreamiest break-up song you'll hear all year.
