EP REVIEW: Low-Key/High Strung (AIDEN BRADLEY)

EP Low-Key/High Strung // ARTIST Aiden Bradley

Brisbane gets a charming spotlight with the brand new EP Low-Key/High Strung from Brissie troubadour Aiden Bradley and a heap of special features from around the local scene.

A passionate artist dedicated to celebrating his contemporaries and unfurling narratives and poignant melodics akin to The National and Paul Dempsey, Aiden Bradley wasted no time following his 2018 debut EP Boat Ramps by working tirelessly for over a year to bring his latest endeavour to fruition: a brand new EP Low-Key/High Strung featuring six emerging Brissie artists that covers life's highs and lows in broodily pleasant fashion.

Starting in sparkling fashion is Mess Things Up, featuring Bradley teaming up with Lili Rose Porter for a charming folk jaunt full of upbeat rhythmics and flitting harmonies, leading into the serene Ignore Me full of some Josh Pyke vibes and dreamy tones with Brissie singer-songwriter Your Man Alex Smith on feature duties for this serene tune.

One of Bradley's lead single's Stupid Things follows next, going full gloomy folk with a sparkling acoustic soul while detailing those long nights spent pondering existence and the mistakes made along the way (and featuring an engaging team up between Bradley and Lochie Matthews).

STUPID THINGS FEAT. LOCHIE MATTHEWS (AIDEN BRADLEY)

Slowly closing out this Brisbane love-fest is a catchy roots groover Under Siege boasting two features in the form of Parlour and Audio Compass, and busting out heavier textures amid some sparkling guitar-work memorably leaping out of this toe-tappin' tune. But the folk is ultimately strongest on Low-Key/High Strung, and closing out proceedings is the swirling Slow Motion with Port Sunday jumping in with some powerfully-laced vocals.

It's clear across the board that Aiden Bradley is an artist who loves his craft and showcasing his local scene within his musical world, whether featuring his local faves in his mixtapes or collaborating with his peers to bring his soft, musing tunes to life. A pure and passionate outing from a dedicated artist who continues to grow with each release, Low-Key/High Strung is definitely one for the lovers of Aussie folk or for those looking for new discoveries along the way.
