Melbourne-via-Darwin artist Local The Neighbour recently served up a slam dunk of an indie rock jam with his latest single Point Guard referencing the likes of Gang of Youths while injecting his very own sonic flavour.
An established artist and a jazz-drummer-turned-indie-rock-coinnoisser, Local The Neighbour, aka David Quested, has performed over the years alongside ARIA award-winning jazz musicians, studied at both the Victorian College of the Arts and at UCLA in Los Angeles and can claim tutelage under some of the jazz greats, including Clayton Cameron (Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr) and George Bohanon (Earth, Wind & Fire).
Driven by his inftuation with the boundless creativity of jazz and now turning his eye to indie music, Local The Neighbour's creative output is one lined with sincerity, fun and jangly melodics, offering extremely welcome warm and inviting moments against the backdrop of some of life's less-than-rosy moments.

A DOG'S LIFE
If you have checked out the latest single Point Guard, you’ll know from the music video that I have a dog (he’s technically my girlfriend’s, but kinda mine by default too). His name is Barnaby, he’s a pomapoo, and he’s the best! When I was a kid I liked cats too, but I found a stray on the street once and brought him home to look after, and 2hrs later I was rushed to hospital - that’s when I found out I was allergic to cats.
BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM
I love soccer! I normally go for Man United (because David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo have been my favourites since I was young), even though they suck right now, and I also love Real Madrid. When I was really young, I asked my dad to name a famous soccer player, and he said David Beckham - at the time I think he played for Madrid, so they’re also still a favourite! Every 4 years my mum and I also watch the FIFA World Cup together, it’s kind of our thing. Even though I don’t live in the same state as my parents, my mum and I will call during some of the Australian games so we’re at least kinda watching together. It’s a serious thing to the point where holidays have been planned around the FIFA World Cup schedule! It’s quite funny.
AND ALL THAT JAZZ
I play jazz drums. During high school all I played was indie, rock, or metal but I decided to study music after high school, and a jazz course was the only option that would let you play the actual drum-set. It was a long journey to gain admission into a good music school in Melbourne, coming from Darwin but thankfully everything worked out! Since then I have been fortunate to be quite involved in the Australian jazz scene to the point where I’ve been a featured artist at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. It’s something I still love a lot and have made a great community of friends through.
COLOURING IN
Apparently I could be slightly colourblind to certain colours. Also there's a strong chance I’m dyslexic, but I’ve never been formally tested (it’s expensive!). It’s best to live in denial anyway. I live in denial a lot.
A BRUSH WITH WONDER
I was at an event in LA, and Stevie Wonder walked past me real close. Then someone bumped into me! It could have been Stevie, but that entire situation is all a blur and I was completely shocked and confused at what had just happened.
