It's news a long time coming, but today it's official: American rockers The Used have just announced they'll be releasing their 8th full-length album Heartwork on April 24 via Big Noise - and they've also just dropped a brand new tune Paradise Lost, a poem by John Milton to tide us over.

Forming almost two decades ago, The Used have remained a vivid force in the alternative rock scene with their pop sensibilities and heavy panache weaving carefully into a brew of relatable yet ricocheting rock. And with the huge announcement of their forthcoming 8th studio album Heartwork due out in April, it's not just a return to some of the band's earlier flair from previous releases, but also a return to collaborating with John Feldmann, producer extraordinaire and also the man responsible for singing the band to Reprise Records all the way back in 2002:

I couldn’t be more honored or grateful to have one of my favorite bands of all time at my record label! They are one of the most influential bands of the last 20 years and we are making a career-defining album at the  minute,” shares Feldmann. “They are one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen and Bert is quite possibly the best singer I’ve ever worked with. This has been a dream of mine since I met them in 2001." John Feldmann, Producer/Head of A&R Big Noise

And today gifting another peek into what's to come in April from The Used, new single Paradise Lost, a poem by John Milton delves into frontman Bert McCracken's love of the famous John Milton novel, while threading the hard-hitting heart beating at the centre of The Used's sonic soul.

"I’ve always been a bit obsessed with Paradise Lost...I really dug deep into the poem and its author, John Milton. As I was reading a lot of his political essays I realized that a lot of what ’Satan’ says in Paradise Lost are quotes directly from John Milton’s own mouth. A lot of people thought he was the devil back then. He had a huge problem with the show of opulence from the Church. He thought it was disgusting. His poem is about the failed revolution against the Church of England, which is Satan’s failed revolution on earth. And what’s more incredible or exciting than a failed revolution?” - Bert McCracken

Promising a mix of dance, pop and some "actual punk rock", Heartwork is undoubtedly set to raise the roof and hurl it into the next suburb - but in the meantime, you can catch the brand new tune and music video below, and pre-save the new album right HERE.
