2025 may have been Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac, but for Australian music on a global scale it's pretty safe to say this year also belonged to our homegrown punk royalty Amyl and the Sniffers.
In this year alone the band swept up hard at the ARIA Awards, taking home Album of the Year, Best Group, Best Rock Album and Best Cover Art for Cartoon Darkness. Declaring herself the new Prime Minister in one of her acceptance speeches, vocalist Amy Taylor also showcased that the band's true-blue spirit carries far beyond the stage and into real life; and the accolades this year of course don't end there. Tapped to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone AU/NZ, along with Taylor snapped up to feature in Playboy, Amyl and The Sniffers also secured their first ever GRAMMY nomination for the raw punk anthem U Should Not Be Doing That, opened for AC/DC and The Offspring amongst a horde of touring commitments worldwide, personally shouted the city of Melbourne a $35,000 bar tab when their Federation Square show was shut down due to safety concerns, and (the reason we're here today): ticked off their biggest headline performance in October at London's iconic Alexandra Palace.
Performing with beautiful ferality to 10,000 fans at what the locals call 'Ally Pally', Amyl and the Sniffers documented this milestone that threw down on October 25 and have now gifted this immortal moment for free to everyone to devour in their living rooms. Filmed by award-winning director and frequent Amyl collaborator John Angus Stewart, it might not be perfect but it's mine (Live at Ally Pally) takes you on-stage, behind the scenes and front row centre throughout this monumental performance. Forget FOMO, you can practically feel (and potentially taste) the sweat dripping through the crowd and witness the electrifying surge as the band hurl everything they've got at this massive London crowd, featuring some of the band's most beloved cuts on full display.
If you're not entirely sure yet what all the fuss is about, it might not be perfect but it's mine pretty perfectly sums up what the rest of the world already knows with gusto: Amyl and the Sniffers are masters at weaving ferocity, rebellion and a lovable Aussie larrikin spirit that equally empowers, challenges and relates. A band in 2025 wielding a genuine punk rock spirit is hard to come by at the best of times, and Amyl and the Sniffers are not only doing it with their unapolagetic greatness, bridging an entirely new generation into the realms of punk and female-fronted acts; they're also declaring to the world the calibre and appeal of Australian artists in general, and it's an undeniable win for Aussies and the music industry at large to see this explosive skyrocket that has zero limits, and also zero signs of slowing down.
it might not be perfect but it's mine is streaming for free right now on YouTube, grab a watch below and rip your speakers and/or living room a new one!
