Seriously, who doesn't love a collab. I mean - some may not, but here at The Soundcheck we def love a team-up, especially when it's two cultures colliding in the heavy realms. And today we've all been gifted a mammoth collab between Japan's BABYMETAL and Russia's Slaughter To Prevail, with the brand new single Song 3 out now.

Taken from Slaughter To Prevail's upcoming new album GRIZZLY (due out July 18), and BABYMETAL's new album METAL FORTH (due out on June 27), Song 3 is a crushing delight, pairing the trademark barbarity of Slaughter To Prevail with BABYMETAL's playful yet powerful delivery - and levelling both bands up in the process.

Unsurprisingly a theatrical outing between both groups, Song 3 is also loaded with razor-sharp precision and tension alongside a captivating cultural melting pot, with both bands repeatedly chanting "Ichi, ni san" in Japanese (1, 2, 3 in English) in a forceful display. Penned between the UK and Russia by Slaughter To Prevail's Jack Simmons and Alex Terrible, Song 3 was then sent across continents for BABYMETAL to add some kawaii-core chaos. With lyrics, flow and verses all centred around the concept of "3', Song 3 also boasts Trivium's Matt Heafy performing the shamisen, a stringed traditional Japanese instrument, woven throughout the song.

The accompanying music video follows a young version of Slaughter to Prevail’s Alex Terrible, bullied and outcast, as he transforms— guided by BABYMETAL themselves—into a force capable of confronting his past.

Earlier this year both BABYMETAL and Slaughter To Prevail whipped down under fans into a frenzy at Knotfest Australia's 2025 edition, and Song 3 also isn't BABYMETAL's first foray into some cross-cultural collaboration, recently also joining forces for Indian folk metal extraordinaires Bloodywood for Bekhauf, as well as German partycore purveyors Electric Callboy for RATATATA.

And as mentioned earlier in this piece, this latest team-up between BABYMETAL and Slaughter To Prevail will also be witnessed on Slaughter To Prevail's impending new full-length, GRIZZLY, as well as BABYMETAL's upcoming album METAL FORTH. All hail the 2025 heavy music gods, they are definitely delivering the goods so far!
