SINGLE: I Could Eat a Full Packet of Yo Yo's ARTIST: Heaps Good Friends
Adelaide trio Heaps Good Friends are heaps good at crafting synth-tastic treats that stick in your ears and get you throwing down shapes on the dancefloor against your will - and their latest single 'I Could Eat a Full Packet of Yo Yo's' is another sugary delight.
Made up of Emma Fradd (vocals/guitar), Nick O'Connor (bass/vocals) and Dan Steinert (drums), Heaps Good Friends have spent the year teasing their catchy hooks and explosive synths with singles 'Olympic Sneakers' and 'Let's Hug Longer' (which is already sitting in the 10 most played tracks on triple J for the year), and their latest offering is outrageously likeable; relentless beats and flirty arpeggios reign supreme for this little ditty, while Fradd's teasing vocals soar across synths that would make Gary Numan proud. And while this upbeat dream is definitely easy on the ears, there's a gnawing nostalgia kicking around lyrically, evoking days of high school crushes and teenage vulnerability that elevates the track beyond just being another vapid pop-filled tune.
It's little wonder Heaps Good Friends have already chalked up some stellar live slots this year alone, touring nationally with The Jungle Giants, popping up at BIGSOUND, and landing a triple J Unearthed performance slot at Groovin' the Moo. And to close out 2017, alongside the release of 'I Could Eat a Full Packet of Yo Yo's' is the tantalising news that these good friends will be releasing their debut EP 'Hug Me' early next year. One can only assume we have a lot more fun in store from this upbeat trio who may very well be the human embodiment of a glitter explosion.
