Two years after the release of her 2023 EP Analysis Paralysis, Sydney-born MAY-A has roared back to life with a brand new single [REDACTED], which has arrived armed with a self-directed music video - and also marks the singer-songwriter's first independent release.
Described by MAY-A as being "written with the musical wizard Chloe Dadd on the floor and on the balcony and on the patio and in the sun or our LA house", [REDACTED] is a spikier affair than her 2023 outing, complete with fuzzed-up guitars and a punk aesthetic in its accompanying visuals ultimately mirroring the single's cathartic themes and messaging.
“I wanted to take a moment and channel everything that’s been frustrating me into something that’s not only a release for me, but for anyone who feels the same. There’s a lot going on in the world, and I think it’s important to laugh at the absurdity of it all — and to try and take action in the process.” - MAY-A
Directing the music video for [REDACTED], which was filmed by Sydney creative powerhouse Elder, MAY-A steps into a brand new chapter that has evolved after she relocated to Los Angeles and started work on her anticipated upcoming debut album.
Previously featuring on Flume's 2022 single Say Nothing, MAY-A has cultivated several ARIA Music Award nominations over the years, has performed onstage with Cyndi Lauper, supported the likes of 5 Seconds of Summer and Glass Animals, and ticking off multiple festival appearances along the way.
With the current state of the world, [REDACTED] is a relatable tongue-in-cheek pre-dystopian anthem that is equally an escape as much as it's a catchy mirror held up to the genuinely chaotic times we live in.
