SINGLE REVIEW: My Friend Mal (VENICE ON FIRE)

SINGLE: My Friend Mal ARTIST: Venice on Fire

Toxicity gets a catchy right hook to the ears from Toowoomba alt-rockers Venice on Fire and their brand new single 'My Friend Mal'.

Marking the first taste of new tuneage since their debut release Tempt A Saint last year, the thumping trio have returned in fine form with their new baby; 'My Friend Mal' comes at you riffs a'blazing, mixing grungy tinges of 90s rock with more modern Aussie alt-rock tendencies that hooks and hulks on its nearly four minute journey.

But it's not just rock and or roll on the table for the Venice on Fire lads this time round, with the group zeroing in on dysfunctional friendships and the unique agony of parting ways, as frontman Tom Gillespie explains: "Mal is made up of so many people I’ve met and known in my life – friends, family, ex-partners. He’s the embodiment of the people whose toxicity seeps into your being and wears you down...But the narrator doesn’t hate Mal – he’s drawn to him and that’s what makes him so damaging. It’s a reminder that people will often have friends that they really shouldn’t be friends with.”

A result of years crafting their sound in regional Queensland, there's no doubt a whole lot more we'll be hearing from Venice on Fire in the future - but for now, go make friends with 'My Friend Mal', more info below.
