SINGLE: Lost // ARTIST: Rival Fire
It's been a while between new tunes for alt-rock luminaries Rival Fire, but absence has made the heart (and songwriting) grow fonder, and their new track 'Lost' reveals significant propulsion into a new, dynamic era for the Melbourne quartet.
On paper, Rival Fire boast the clout most bands could only dream of; touring alongside the likes of The Butterfly Effect and Birds of Tokyo, fronted by vocalist/songwriter Rob Farnham and recently announcing Clint Vincent of Dead Letter Circus fame on guitar alongside bassist Zac Connelly and drummer Kieran Rafferty, it's safe to say expectations should and would be extraordinarily high for these Melbourne lads with their latest endeavours. And while their previous album 'WAR' hinted at their velvety darker tendencies, it's with the new single 'Lost' that Rival Fire reveal their most confident and gripping selves yet.
Erupting amid soft and ambient tones, 'Lost' strikes hard and fast with fervent urgency and emotive melodics building into an impassioned, hooky chorus. Driven firmly by Farnham's brawny vocals alongside glistening guitars and stomping rhythmics, 'Lost' twist and turns from soaring anthemic moments to dulcet refrains, while firmly exploring the broader notion of loss beyond the romantic realms, as Rob Farnham explains: "Lost is about finding your way through loss and regret...It’s not written as a relationship song, as we didn’t want it to be too abstract. We use ‘loss’ as an entity that you have a relationship with. Forgiving yourself and dealing with the feeling associated."
Offering a glimpse into what will be a new album from the Rival Fire gents later this year, 'Lost' offers a scintillating peek into Rival Fire 2.0 and their continued assertive grip on the new era of Australian alt-rock.
