SINGLE: Low Country // ARTIST: Jordan Merrick
Dipping his toes into some jangling 60s water, Brissie folk lord Jordan Merrick returns with gusto via a brand new gem of a tune 'Low Country'.
Marking his first new music since a diabolically busy 2017 (which included two EPs and tours alongside the likes of Mia Dyson and Alex the Astronaut), 'Low Country' builds on Jordan Merrick's previous outings with a bold and grooving swagger.
Mixing folksy vibes with 60s-soaked tremolo guitars and organ riffs, Merrick crafts a catchy retro delight that showcases his crooning vocals atop some sparkling piano and organ by the legendary Harry James Angus (The Cat Empire, Tin Pan Orange), and ultimately helmed by ARIA winning producer/engineer Steven Schram (Paul Kelly, Bob Evans, The Cat Empire).
A track laden with excitement and bluesy temptation, Merrick also lyrically explores the themes set-up by the music, as he explains: "When I think about temptation – be it vice-like alcoholism or drug addiction – most would view it in a dark, dangerous light. While that is certainly true, I think the allure of any vice or addiction paints itself to the user as a thing of joy, fulfilment and euphoria – similar to that of the sirens in Homer’s’ Odyssey. 'Low Country' is the Angel and Devil in each corner of your mind fighting to convince you to both resist and give in."
