SINGLE REVIEW: Storm Boy (BEN WRIGHT SMITH)

SINGLE: Storm Boy ARTIST: Ben Wright Smith

Silken tongued Melb singer-songwriter Ben Wright Smith has parted the clouds and returned with a warm flourish with brand new single 'Storm Boy' .

Following an extremely fruitful 2017, including a 30 date tour alongside Pete Murray, a regional headline tour plus his acclaimed debut album 'The Great Divorce', 'Storm Boy' carries the indie folk bliss into 2018 with a rich and cheerful spring in its step, and a hint of Americana lurking beneath the driving beats.

It's a crooning and swooning journey that expands on the already established musical flair Wright Smith threw down on his debut, and inspired in part by his journeys around the country and an insatiable need to capture the magic upon his return: "I was looking out over Magnetic Island and some dark storm clouds began to gather on the horizon over the island. The song itself isn’t about Magnetic Island per se, but it got me thinking about an island society preparing for a big storm. I liked the idea and began thinking about it all the time. I think maybe being in the uncertain times we are in, it worked as an allegory to what was happening around me. By the time I returned, I had a bunch of songs inspired by similar ideas and it seemed like the embryonic form of an album. I hadn’t really anticipated starting a new project straight away, but it felt like we were onto something, so we hit the studio pretty much right away.”

'Storm Boy' will be officially launched this week with a special hometown show from Ben Wright Smith and his band this Friday. Check out the track plus more below.

Friday 24th August The B East Melbourne
