SINGLE REVIEW: Bad Decisions (REDHOOK)

SINGLE Bad Decisions // ARTIST RedHook

Sydney genre hoppers RedHook bust out their hookiest jaunt yet with a combustive emo-tastic firecracker in the form of recent single Bad Decisions.

Increasingly renowned for their trademark blitz of rap, rock and mutant pop, RedHook are now finally barreling closer to their debut EP after a whirlwind of Aussie headline shows, overseas festivals and sweltering supports alongside Sevendust, The Amity Affliction and more. A band furiously in control of their explosive sonic stylings and heartfelt thematics, RedHook are a band inescapably addictive and exciting tightly encased in polished fire. And while the impending EP from the group this April is perhaps one of the most anticipated releases on the heavy calendar for fans of bangers that unabashedly break the mould, it's on RedHook's latest single (and upcoming EP title track) Bad Decisions that the trio rip their metaphorical sleeves, revealing a confessional punk rock anthem to burrow into your heart and ears.

Brandishing infectious hooks, scalding riffs and the ever-effervescent vocal stylings of frontwoman Emmy Mack, Bad Decisions is equal parts catchy and relatable. And if the stomping rhythmics and boisterous instrumentation isn't enough of a draw, you'll be hard-pressed to not get swept up singing along to the gang vocals, alongside a heap of RedHook's mates from Yours Truly, The Dead Love, Grenade Jumper, FANGZ, Down For Tomorrow and The Last Martyr.

"I always joke to the boys that it's my theme song...I wrote it when I was feeling depressed as fuck, trapped in a spiral of self-destructive behaviour and making a lot of *checks thesaurus* questionable life choices that only served to intensify my rubbish headspace and feelings of deep self-loathing. ‘Bad Decisions' is me reflecting from rock bottom on how on earth I went from being a straight-edge, dux-of-my-Catholic-school goody-two-shoes to feeling like a totally lost and fucked up mess of an adult. It's me laughing at myself and, I guess, trying to take something positive away from all it all. Hopefully someone else out there can relate."

- Emmy Mack, RedHook vocals

In a captivating display of brash self-loathing and infectious finesse , Bad Decisions is undoubtedly a dazzling start to what is set to be a huge year in the RedHook camp. We've all fallen victim to making wrong choices or royally messing up, but one thing is for damn certain: none of us are alone in feeling that way, and guaranteed one of the best decisions you can make this week is to check out this new rager from RedHook (living room mosh pit optional). You can check out the new track below, and be sure to keep an eye out for the impending music video in the not so distant future!
