SINGLE REVIEW: Bad Guy (BAD MOON BORN)

SINGLE Bad Guy // ARTIST Bad Moon Born

What is one to do when you've recently upped your heavy sonic ante and are gearing up for a new EP release next year? Why, cover Billie Eilish, of course, and that's just what Sydney heavies Bad Moon Born have done with a dark and sprightly reimagining of Bad Guy officially dropping yesterday.

Churning into the latter half of 2020 off the back of their self-produced single Noxa released earlier in the year, Bad Moon Born have recently begun to tiptoe away from their previous brand of nostalgic rock into far heavier waters. And while the group have steadily found success both at home and in the US with their enigmatic live prowess, it's with the addition of their new vocalist Jordan Von Grae earlier this year that the group have made significant strides into some striking modern rock territory - and this bodes extremely well for their upcoming endeavours, including some recent ear candy courtesy of their cover of Billie Eilish's Bad Guy dropping into the world this week.

Boasting raspy grooves, jaunty beats and a healthy serve of sanguine swagger, Bad Moon Born's version of the dark pop favourite captures the slinky hooks and murky flair of Billie Eilish's original - but with a cacophonous jolt of rock and roll. Not taking things too seriously while also smashing it out of the park, Bad Moon Born present as a bridge between ominous pop and blasting rock with this latest track, and significantly flex their abilities as they continue their venture into new sonic realms.

"Whilst we’re beginning to move towards a much heavier sound, we’re also starting to pull a bit of influence from modern dark pop. As the new direction is quite a deviation from the previous iteration of the band, we felt this cover to be a great bridge for that transition. Some of us are also quite big Billie Eilish fans, so the process of re-imagining her work was a lot of fun." - Jordan Von Grae (vocalist)

Armed with an accompanying video for the cover that'll please fans of the original (or just anyone who likes blood and goon), Bad Guy is a super fun outing from a band set to no doubt ignite more heavy joy in the near future - and Bad Moon Born will utterly hook you with their sugar-fueled-sleepover-at-a-cemetery vibe on this latest tune.

BAD MOON BORN'S BAD GUY IS OUT AND ABOUT RIGHT NOW, AND YOU CAN CHECK OUT THEIR CHEEKY NEW VID BELOW AS WELL. FOR MORE INFO HEAD HERE.
