Byron-based singer-songwriter Garrett Kato strikes immaculate indie folk gold teaming up with the iconic Julia Stone for some whispered bliss on the brand new tune Breathe It In.
Finding his sonic feet in Byron Bay after quitting his day job in Canada on a whim and moving to Australia, Garrett Kato's sonic pursuits have most certainly not been in vain, from busking and performing anywhere he could lay his guitar to commanding over 20 million worldwide Spotify streams and producing for some of Australia's premier indie folk royalty including Ziggy Alberts, Kyle Lionheart and more. And while Kato's whispered vocals and sparkling simplicity need little ornamentation, 2020 finds Kato teaming up with indie darlin' Julia Stone for an evocative turn with Breathe It In effortlessly offering up an immaculate indie treasure.
Initially reminiscent of Vance Joy's Georgia, Breathe It In unfurls with wistful flavours alongside warm, metallic folk instrumentals as Kato's imploring, heady vocals intertwine with Stone's breathy stylings in a dreamlike fashion. The juxtaposition of hearing Stone set against male vocals other than younger bro Angus lends a refreshing twist to proceedings, as does the charming arrangement as it swells with its instrumentation.
Coming into 2020 after a year full of European, North American and Aussie shows (plus a heap of new music), Garrett Kato is laying some spectacular foundations for a sturdy 2020 with his latest release, so go breathe in the sonic goodness and get some heartfelt bliss in your life.
