SINGLE REVIEW: Fill The Crown (POPPY)

SINGLE Fill The Crown // ARTIST Poppy

Genre chameleon Poppy cements her reign as the queen of art-metal with her latest track Fill The Crown coming in hot to close out 2019.

Poised on the brink of unleashing her third full-length I Disagree in just a few weeks, American artist Poppy continues to defy genres and fitting the mold as she hurtles into the end of a decade with the darkly effervescent track Fill The Crown.

Marking the fourth single from I Disagree, Fill The Crown is a capricious wonderland laden with glittering electronics and scathing industrial undertones, guided by Poppy's signature eclectic neon brutality. Flitting between time signatures, growls and glossy reprieves, there's a heap of retro delights awaiting in this shuffling gem; from 80s pop to 90s industrial grunt, it's as if Madonna and Marilyn Manson had a sonic love-child and christened it with an otherworldly chalice of modernity.

Fresh from her showing at the Good Things stages earlier this month in Australia and sitting pretty with her latest tune in the world, Poppy's ascension is set to reach staggering new heights as she fast approaches the release of her latest sonic wizardry next month. And for an artist already commanding 2.5million+ YouTube subscribers, a feature in Rolling Stone's Best Pop Albums for her debut album Poppy.Computer in 2017 and gracing stages all over the world, it's undeniable that 2020 is going to be a year to remember for this surreal and scintillating artist, and one that is equally special for the lady herself.

"In terms of doing what I wanted to in every element from start-to-finish, this feels like my first album. The narrative is really about destroying the things that try to destroy you.” - Poppy

And as an added bonus to lead you into the silly season, Poppy has also unleashed an accompanying video for Fill The Crown, drawing inspiration from the 1957 film The Seventh Seal, with Poppy walking side-by-side with Death. You can get your hands on I Disagree in its entirety come January 10, but in the meantime bow down to the queen of mesmerising pop metal and go get your eyes and ears around Fill The Crown below.

POPPY'S THIRD FULL-LENGTH I DISAGREE IS OFFICIALLY OUT ON JANUARY 10 THROUGH SUMERIAN RECORDS. PRE-ORDERS ARE AVAILABLE HERE. FOR MORE POPPY INFO HEAD HERE.
