SINGLE Just A Phase // ARTIST Timi Temple

Busting out charming indie rock sure ain't just a phase for DIY lord Timi Temple, and his latest tune Just A Phase flexes polish and crunch amid heartfelt flutters to warm your cold, cold heart.

Balancing coquettish affability with strident maturity in everything he touches, Sydney indie rocker Timi Temple brings together the woozy cream of Methyl Ethel with the upbeat stylings of DZ Deathrays (and a lifelong love of all things snakes), dressed up in a DIY twist. And with previous releases dazzling the triple j and community radio crowds, as well as a rap sheet of tours alongside the likes of Baker Boy, Cosmo's Midnight and beyond, Timi Temple continues to showcase his knack for concocting earworms with a soul, closing out 2020 with the jaunty tune Just A Phase.

Steadily driven by Timi's steady vocals (at times recalling the more tender flourishes of David Le'aupepe in earlier Gang of Youths days), Just A Phase brings balmy guitars, lucid melodics and clever simplicity, culminating in a journey of buoyancy laden with poignancy as Timi tackles some deeper themes below the warmth cavorting above.

"’Just A Phase’ is a song dedicated to my little sister. I wrote the song filled with emotional fervour after having dinner with my sister and consoling her through her first experience with a friend taking their own life. I say the first experience solemnly, because as a creative, depression and addiction is rampant and sadly it’s taken many of my friends. The lyrics unfold chronologically as my sister describes the events leading up. It follows the ubiquitous path of anxiety, addiction, prescription, ostracization, loneliness, then escape.” - Timi Temple

Self-produced and mixed by Timi himself, Just A Phase is ultimately a haven of sunny tones and reassurance from an artist heavily capable of shaping the next generation of indie rock in the Aussie scene. And while it may be hard to top creating the world's largest game of Snakes and Ladders in 2020, something tells us 2021 is only going to find Timi climbing higher than ever if he keeps busting out sonic gems of this caliber. Go check out the new track below, and keep an eye out for an imminent music video!
