SINGLE Mundungus // ARTIST Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
Mothers, lock up your crumpets - there's a boisterously good time on the loose from Perth fuzzsters Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, with the quartet's thumping new track Mundungus threatening to shred your ears and butter your brain into totally charming chaos.
Fresh off the release of their third studio album And Now For The Whatchamacallit, a 27 date North American tour and a much-buzzed about showing at this year's Splendour in the Grass, the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets seem to be on a freight train bound for notoriety of late. And while the dust has barely settled on the group's recent album, the Porn Crumpets gents are hurtling into the end of the year currently with a run of shows in the UK and Europe ahead of some hometown festival showings with a cherry on top - the brand new tune under their hazy belts in the form of the fiendish toe-tapper Mundungus.
An archaic term for foul-smelling tobacco (and also the name of Harry Potter conman Mundungus Fletcher), Mundungus lives up to its nefarious namesakes, wielding delightfully macabre melodics, chaotic guitars and some blasphemously upbeat rhythmics that are equally turbulent and addictive - much like the conception of the track as Jack McEwan explains:
“Mundungus is the rare post tour recovery period where all our surrounding friends and family assume we’re crippled with alcoholism, burdened with lives of social estrangement and are far too disillusioned to foresee our self destructive tendencies”.
Like a Queens of the Stone Age hoedown in a blistering blender, the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are really flexing their creative muscles on this latest outing and it's a tantalising peek into yet another new era for this ferociously agile group. Pass the crumpets and the tobacco - and let's bust out some Deathly Hallows.
