SINGLE New Burn Order // ARTIST Drown This City
Get set for a stark and swooning slice of post-hardcore courtesy of Melb quintet Drown This City and their searing new tune New Burn Order which officially dropped today alongside a blisteringly beautiful music video.
The first sign of new material from Melbourne post-hardcore legends Drown This City for 2021, New Burn Order signals a stunning new phase for this compelling bunch, alongside the announcement of new bassist and vocalist Toby Thomas officially joining the group. And following an explosive two years since joining the UNFD family in 2019 and releasing their potent sophomore EP Alpha // Survivor, this latest sonic endeavour for DTC packs in all the polish and ferocity fans have come to know and love; but with some significantly brutal themes below the surface.
Splattering explosive rhythmics beneath oscillating grit and glamour, New Burn Order flicks between crystalline clean elegance and howling murk as the track hauntingly paints the heartbreaking picture of Drown This City vocalist Alex Read's rejection and detachment from her family at a young age. Traversing intense and shattering personal themes, the fire and ice woven deftly into the soundscapes of New Byrn Order burrows seamlessly into Read's intimate exploration of abandonment and belonging, serving as a cathartic and captivating experience for the listener as much as for Read herself.
There's a line that says 'You said you were ashamed to share my DNA, I’m sorry to tell you we are counterparts – mirror image, blurred view'... I want to tell them we are cut from the same cloth, my destruction is their destruction, my shame is their shame. They don’t have what it takes to survive this and I’m going to show them I do...While you are not responsible for what happens to you, but you are for how you react. True freedom is acceptance that all our feelings, hurts, pains, vices, they belong to us now and we must battle them alone – carry them with pride – I’m not burning to be annihilated but to be cleansed and set free."
Alex Reade, Drown This City vocalist
Continually proving themselves as a ferocious and stringent spark in the Aussie heavy scene, Drown This City once again serve up a sonic boom to shred your soul and capture your heart; and this is just the beginning of some incredible things to come.
