SINGLE Spit (feat. Isaac Black) // ARTIST Earth Caller
Amping up their usual spitfire methods, Melbourne’s Earth Caller carve up a roaring war-cry laced with grime rap and metal on their latest track Spit featuring Isaac Black from DVSR leaping proceedings to a new level.
Renowned for their crisp and crushing tones, emotive melodics and a sprinkling of hip hop amid the metalcore madness, Earth Caller have previously been called up to join the likes of Miss May I, Deez Nuts, King Parrot and many more since their inception in 2013. And while the group have always clasped onto pushing their own hallmarks in the heavy world, it’s with their latest track Spit that the group leap further into a beautiful abyss of sonic anarchy and thematic invigoration.
Jumping out with drawling guitars and the familiar tones of frontman Josh Collard, Spit evolves rapidly into a brooding battleaxe as the Earth Caller gents roar their wares and defiantly rile up a frenzy dedicated to calling out those who try to hold us down. Boasting the usual blasting breakdowns, it seems business as usual for Earth Caller – but as a fresh treat for the ears, the lads have called in Isaac Black from Aussie rap metallers DVSR to hurl in some drill/grime rap amongst the metal and flesh out the pre-existing hip hop tendencies just that little bit further.
Coming to life through a handpicked team, including Beau McKee (House Vs. Hurricane, Between You & Me, Oceans Inside), video director Colin Jeffs (The Brave, Rumours, Honest Crooks), rap producer Santi on vocal production and Melbourne rapper/producer Andre Jemal throwing down some background vocals, Spit is a rager that holds its own, both from a creative and “fuck the man” perspective, as vocalist/songwriter Isaac Black explains:
“I've always enjoyed making music that pumps people up and Spit is no exception. This song is for anyone that's ever had anyone try to stand over them. This song is a battle cry intended to remind listeners how strong they can be if/when they need to. This song is to reminder that you don't have to take shit from anyone.”
And armed with a new music video to boot, Earth Caller are definitely in fine form with Spit; heaving and hurling with just the right amount of fury shaped in positive fashion, it’s ultimately this razor-sharp authenticity that puts a smile behind the sting of their latest new release.
