SINGLE Twenty Somethin' // ARTIST Harts
When the one-man sensation known as Harts erupted onto the scene just a few years ago, he had jaws a-droppin' with his Hendrix-esque licks and sultry vocals (and boasted the late, legendary Prince among his early fans). But with a few years between tunes, time has only strengthened this magnetic artist, and his latest tune Twenty Somethin' that dropped today busts out a testament to the industry's renewed Harts love affair in some spicy sonic fashion.
When you are likened to one of your musical idols by your musical idol early on in your career, chances are you're onto something special. And for Harts, aka Darren Hart, the man who received a direct phone call from Prince to come and jam with him at Paisley Park in his early days, it's been an ongoing journey of growing his modern take on the rock and funk days gone by from a bedroom studio wunderkid into an internationally marketable package. And while it's been a few years between new tunes for this Indian-born, Aussie-based machine, 2020 finds Harts raring to roar into a new decade with his new track Twenty Somethin'.
Offering a feast of heavy grooves amid retro tinges and modern electronic production, Twenty Somethin' flits between heavy-hitting narratives, meaty riffs and swaggering futuristic funk as Harts shimmies his compositional flair front and centre between a conduit of genre bending.
Not just highlighting the musical journey Harts has been on since his sophomore LP Smoke Fire Hope Desire back in 2016, Twenty Somethin' also gains us some insight into the end of a significant decade for Harts in more ways than one:
"Twenty Somethin' is an accumulation of my feelings heading into the new year of 2020, the next decade of 20's and the final years of my 20's. An expression of mixed feelings approaching this next chapter”. - Harts
With an upcoming appearance at the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup opening ceremony, plus a tour this June to celebrate some new tunes, 2020 is off to a killer start courtesy of Twenty Somethin' for Harts, and if his track record is anything to go by, it's going to be a very good decade ahead indeed.
