SINGLE REVIEW: We Independent (BOOTLEG RASCAL)

SINGLE We Independent // ARTIST Bootleg Rascal

The future may still seem a tad uncertain in these challenging times, but Syd duo Bootleg Rascal have today dropped their new tune We Independent to add some crisp optimism packed full of smooth grooves and blissful croons to your day.

Continuing down the garden path of sonic exploration taken by Bootleg Rascal of late, We Independent is another delightful smattering of Booty breadcrumb as the duo (comprised of Carlos Lara and Jimmy Young) endeavour to unleash a new track each month to culminate in a concept EP. Heavily influenced by the surrounding circumstances currently challenging our world, We Independent may thematically stem from negative impacts, but the end result is nothing short of swaying buoyancy as the boys blend Lara's creamy vocals with Young's jaunty guitars, and just the right amount of bass and brass to round out the bliss.

"We Independent’ is a track we wrote inspired by starting to remove ourselves from a toxic situation...Initially, we were unsure how to break away from it, but sometimes you have to say enough is enough and follow your intuition. We’re so glad we took that leap of faith and couldn’t be heading in a better direction because of taking that risk" - Jimmy Young, guitarist

Produced by the band themselves and long-time collaborator Ian Pritchett (Boo Seeka, Kim Churchill, Angus and Julia Stone) and Simon Dobson (Little May, STUPID BABY), We Independent is a snapshot of Bootleg Rascal's continued progression since the group's revamp in 2019, as well as a cheery catharsis as the group adapt to less time on the road for the time being and more time in the studio. It may be getting colder outside, but Bootleg Rascal have got all the warmth you'll need with We Independent - go give it a spin below!
