Roaring to life back in 2013 with an intoxicating blend of 70s metal and blues, Brisbane's Street Pieces spent years honing and splicing a heavier edge to their high-octane rock stylings; a journey that truly manifested in 2018 with a sophomore EP Everything You Ever Wanted offering an engaging mix of seductive, grooving rock unafraid to get rowdy in heavier waters. And while more recently these Brissie gents have divulged new material in the forms of singles and tasty music videos since their previous release, it's with their impending EP WARCRY that Street Pieces truly emerge as a bona fide rock and roll entity, with a collection of searing and infectious tunes lying in wait to tantalise your ears.
Kicking open with the Royal Blood-esque One For The Road, WARCRY readily lives up to is namesake, with each resulting song yielding a rallying call to arms of anthemic proportions. With everything from stomping grooves (Cthulhu) to sinful swagger (Sugar Soul), dance-inducing garage rock (Bonnie And Clyde) and a fiery fuzzed-up finale (How Lonely A Love Could Be), WARCRY is a short yet sweet bundle with brawling arrangements, raw, commanding vocals and more grooves than a vintage record lurking in your grandma's basement.
"We recorded in an old stone-walled water tank at Govinda Doyle's studio in Byron. On our first day of tracking we threw Govinda a curve ball by recording Cthulhu live together without a click - we had amps hidden in closets so we could all track together and find that amazing energy that you can only get by bouncing off each other in the moment” - Alex Miller, Street Pieces guitars
