MUSIC NEWS: Dead Letter Circus Celebrate 'The Catalyst Fire' 10th Anniversary With Vinyl

Credit: Thomas Boenig

Ten years on from the release of their sophomore album, The Catalyst Fire, Brisbane icons Dead Letter Circus are commemorating the powerful 2013 release with the announcement today of a special edition vinyl via UNFD.

The Catalyst Fire will be available as a zeotrope vinyl, bringing the album's iconic mandala artwork to animated life and will be strictly limited to 1000 copies. Pre-orders are available now.

Debuting at #2 on the ARIA Album Chart and snagging triple j's feature album upon release, The Catalyst Fire welds darkness alongside immaculate melodics and potent instrumentals. Following on from their 2010 debut album This Is the Warning, The Catalyst Fire saw Dead Letter Circus soaring to even greater heights, from the explosive beauty of its opener The Cure through to the cascading might of Say Your Prayers and the hypnotic Kachina. "10 years ago, we wrote our heaviest record ever - The Catalyst Fire," shares vocalist Kim Benzie. "This was a monumental period in our lives that really shaped the years to come for us." Thematically dominated by the realities of touring, environmental impacts and a formative visit to South America, The Catalyst Fire reflected genuine chaos alongside boundless lyrical and sonic exploration; a fact amplified further by the vivid album art created by Cameron Gray and then formatted to a CD design by Pat Fox. "The artwork we created with Cameron Gray involved symbols hand drawn in the Amazon by an apprentice shaman we met whilst on an Ayahuasca voyage," Benzie continues. "We worked with Cam for two months to create a fusion between our experiences there and his interpretation of the music, and the result was the Catalyst Fire Mandala." "The original picture disk sold out immediately - and we thought the only way to honour the 10-year anniversary would be on vinyl with an animated version. Cheers to everyone in the DLC family for being on this journey with us." Forming in the early 2000s, Dead Letter Circus swiftly made waves via their breakout 2005 single Disconnect and Apply, with the single generating substantial airplay on triple j and becoming one of the station's most played tracks upon release. The band's certified gold debut This Is the Warning swung in at #2 on the ARIA Charts in 2010, with its successors, 2013's The Catalyst Fire and 2015's Aesthesis, closely following suit. Now in command of five full length albums, including their most recent 2018 ARIA Award-nominated self-titled LP, the undeniable ongoing impact of Dead Letter Circus on the Australian alternative landscape continues to flourish, along with their sweltering live reputation touring with the likes of Muse, Linkin Park, Animals As Leaders and Karnivool, as well as countless global festivals and headline runs.
