Eora/Sydney emo pop punks A Swift Farewell have said a rousing hello to their debut EP Hollow Threats, releasing the six-track collection last Friday 6 June.
An EP that straddles multiple genres without sacrificing cohesion, Hollow Threats melds emo, pop punk, alt rock, electronic elements and metalcore into one pretty riveting melting pot that also offers some extremely universal themes, spanning mental health, coming out, betrayal and one-sided relationships.
With production and mixing courtesy of Nat Sherwood (Stand Atlantic, Yours Truly, Besties) and mastering by Grant Berry (Thornhill, Static Dress), A Swift Farewell display a balanced level of vulnerability, vibrancy and a fresh twist on crafting catchy yet intelligent material with a brain throughout Hollow Threats; and throw in some fun features (Amariah from Future Static and Besties), it's a sturdy maiden EP from the quartet who have also been stirring up support in the lead-up via Double J, triple j Unearthed and more.
“The title ‘Hollow Threats’ comes from the line ‘Inflicted your fears in a hollow threat that I saw through’ from the track Homeless,” the band explains. “Each song holds its own meaning, but together they express the broader themes of hardship, challenges, and depression.” - A Swift Farewell
A Swift Farewell will next be performing this August at 2 Pizza 2 Planet Festival in Melbourne, a pop punk celebration that focuses on the stacked talent in the Aussie scene, and here's hoping this talented bunch will take this show on the road v. soon to share their brand new tunes.
For now, check out the new EP below and get ready to sing your lungs out.
