SINGLE: Goldilocks // ARTIST: Nylon Otters
Today we're traipsing across to Buffalo in New York to dip into the woozy world of Nylon Otters and their recently released track 'Goldilocks' from their EP of the same name.
Self-described as "a comfortably chapped band that'd go great with your shoes", the Nylon Otters trio comfortably cling to sonic days-gone-by; laced with lo-fi tones and garage rock leanings, there's a touch of the gruff and fuzzy 90s, with hints of raw 1960s punk.
The warm and whimsical 'Goldilocks' sits at the head of the latest EP for Nylon Otters, basking in some jangly grunge and slacker vocals that casually weaves its undeniable and unconventional charm across a tongue-in-cheek existential narrative crisis, lamenting "where's this "more" we've all gotta have//aren't we all just picked to start going bad".
Marking a significant step-up for Nylon Otters from some of their earlier work, 'Goldilocks' is a lesson in hazy simplicity; on paper it's a cut and dry coarse grunge jam, but between jaunty basslines, raspy vocals, and crisp yet mired guitars, it's actually impossible not to ultimately get swept up in this blurry little tune. If lo-fi ain't your thang, you'd best look elsewhere, but for those who like their rock a little off the beaten track, 'Goldilocks' tastes just right.
