VIDEO PREMIERE: Learning To Swim (RITA B)

There's something in the water for alt-folk ingenue Rita B; channeling a breathy innocence mixed with unfiltered honesty, this endearing Sydney artist has managed to translate sonic bittersweet bliss not only with her previous releases, but now more than ever with the unveiling of a brand new clip for her bouncy tune 'Learning To Swim'.

Featured on her 2017 debut album 'With Pockets Nearly Empty and A Glass Almost Full', 'Learning To Swim' is a folksy ballad charmer bursting with Rita B's (aka Bianca Meier's) trademark airy vocals and driving guitars. And while on its surface it's an uncomplicated journey that happily glides along, the true driving factor scratches far deeper than its upbeat facade, as Rita explains: "First and foremost, (Learning To Swim) is a personal reaction to a friend attempting suicide. More broadly, it is an expression of gratitude towards the ones I care about and touches on the value of community; sharing each others strengths and knowledge in order to maintain harmonious relationships and genuine connections".

And fittingly, the brand new clip takes aim at the underlying themes as well as the literal title, combining Rita and friends in starring roles, her housemate Maisie Cohen behind the lens and a bunch of swimming in the middle of winter at Wattamolla in NSW (and yes, one of her friends actually couldn't swim). The end result is some colourful fun and frivolity that complements the layered complexity behind Rita B - and it's the perfect way to welcome Spring after a dark and gloomy Winter.
