SINGLE PREMIERE: "Shooting The Breeze" (SEGUE)

WHISKING YOU AWAY ON A CLOUD OF SYNTHY ALT-POP, PERTH DUO SEGUE FIND MELTED BEAUTY IN STAGGERING SIMPLICITY ON THEIR LATEST TRACK SHOOTING THE BREEZE, OFFICIALLY OUT THIS WEDNESDAY JUNE 24 - BUT PREMIERING RIGHT NOW ON THE SOUNDCHECK FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE!

Coming off the back of their recent tune 2 Things back in March, Perth pair Segue find new, emotive territory with their upcoming track Shooting The Breeze, offering yet another glimpse into the duo's forthcoming sophomore album I Get It due out in August. Leaning heavily on minimal textures while exploring ruminations of uncertainty and vulnerability, Shooting The Breeze unfurls with wispy synths and a Rhodes-style electronic piano, reveling in melancholic warmth amid the powerful fragility of vocalist Jeremy Segal.

Featuring deliberately stripped-back production, Shooting The Breeze floats readily with its serenity and brooding beauty as it straddles a dreamlike state coated in art-pop whimsy. And while synthesisers may reign supreme in the hands of this surreal duo, it's their ability to showcase measured restraint that truly bolsters the profound lyrical weight on this emotional and meditative outing.

“I wrote Shooting the Breeze around the start of 2018, while we were still finishing our first album Primary Ties. Initially I thought it’d work well as an interlude between tracks, with just electric piano and vocals recorded through an iPhone or something - kind of like Frank Ocean’s Good Guy. But once I started working on it properly I became super into the idea of having minimal electronic percussion and a sprawling, kind of melancholic synth outro. I was anxious pretty much all the time when I wrote the track, so for me now it’s a reflection of that time and the kind of headspace I was in. Most of the production work on that track was just our attempt to really capture that feeling as simply as possible, which I guess is why the production is so minimal - just a few small elements and nothing more. It also might explain why there isn’t a real ‘song’ structure to this one - it’s more of a meditation than a narrative.” - Jeremy Segal, vocals

With just a few short months to go until the release of Segue's sophomore album I Get It, Shooting The Breeze brings sonic certainty to the unknown and a unique fluidity to sparse stylistic subversion wrapped up as a billowing wave of deep synthy goodness. You can grab a peek at the track below before it officially unveils this Wednesday via Group Therapy Records - and be sure to keep an eye out for the pair's livestream launch show on Saturday June 27 to celebrate their brand new sonic baby!
