Welcome to the round four of The Soundcheck's "Soundcheck" segment, where we check out 5 x new tunes that have dropped this week to carry you into the weekend - and beyond!
This week we're featuring the re-imagined new single from Miss May I teaming up with Fit For A King, Brisbane's Semantics hurl an indie punk pearler, Perth alt metal rising star RinRin enters her dystopian era, Gold Coast rockers Chavez Cartel bring some post punk haze, and HEALTH drop a brand new music video alongside their haunting collab with CHVRCHES' very own Lauren Mayberry.
Miss May I - Forgive and Forget Feat. Fit For A King
What a week it's been for Ohio metalcore quartet Miss May I, announcing their signing with Solid State Records, dishing on the upcoming release of the 15th anniversary edition of their beloved album Apologies Are For The Weak due out next month - and there's a scorching re-imagined track out in the world now too, with the updated 2024 version of their single Forgive and Forget also featuring Ryan Kirby and Ryan "Tuck" O'Leary from Fit For A King.
As part of the 15th anniversary celebrations for Apologies Are For The Weak, the entire album will get a 2024 makeover that will see a guest appearance on every one of the 10 tracks, with features from the likes of Silent Planet, Currents, Carnifex, August Burns Red and more all lying in wait. And to kick off proceedings, the album's closer, Forgive and Forget, finds new life this week with the addition of both Kirby and O'Leary from Fit For A King in this driving new version.
Retaining the original's ferocity while also flexing an updated mix, Forgive and Forget brings together two bands who clearly hold an affinity and much respect for one another. And hearing Kirby alongside Miss May I unclean vocalist Levi Benton is a fun ride whether you've been a fan since the original album's release back in 2009 or you're a more recent Miss May I convert.
Forgive and Forget Feat. Fit For A King is out now. Apologies For The Weak (Re-Recorded 15th Anniversary Edition) is due out August 23.

Semantics - Love Language
Packing a bright and relatable punch, the brand new single Love Language out this week from Brisbane indie punks Semantics is a brilliant mix of introspection, tight execution and wailing guitars amongst the group's trademark Aussie tinge.
Taken from their recently announce sophomore album, I FEEL IT ALL AT ONCE due out September 27 via SideOneDummy Records, Love Language is a fresh and passionate continuation of sounds explored on Semantics' 2022 debut LP Paint Me Blue, with the group showcasing their firm command of their 2024 sonic identity most fervently via their brand new single; and it's one that is hard-hitting and raw yet buoyantly cathartic.
Set to capture the highs and lows of life across 11 tracks on I FEEL IT ALL AT ONCE, Semantics are a band that can catapult coming-of-age vulnerability into an affable end result reminiscent of Luca Brasi and the like. But ultimately, this is a band also growing into something uniquely their own, and Love Language is setting the stage for some big things on the horizon.
Love Language is out now. I FEEL IT ALL AT ONCE is due out on September 27 via SideOneDummy Records.

RinRinn - PRN
If you recently caught Sydney prog luminaries Reliqa on their headline run last month, chances are you would've also caught Perth alternative rising star RinRin live in action. If not and you're into the likes of Poppy, BABYMETAL and/or Bring Me The Horizon, you should absolutely become acquainted with this dynamic artist. And what better way to dive in than with a brand new track that dropped this week: the delightfully dystopian PRN.
The first entry point into a planned string of fantasy-fuelled releases, PRN is packed full of gleeful mayhem and oodles of pop-punk-meets-metal glossy vibes. Oscillating between calmer reprieves and high-octane choruses, PRN also flexes RinRin's vocal acrobtics, flitting from airy cleans through to rapid-fire delivery and scathing fire without batting an eye.
Produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Lalic (Windwaker), PRN is a fun and ferocious entry from RinRin and one that also touches on some meaningful themes, spanning mental health, coping mechanisms and healing. Stay tuned for more from the RinRin multiverse in the very near future!
PRN is out now.

Chavez Cartel - Unfamiliar Boy
A narcotic fusion of grit and post punk haze, Gold Coast rockers Chavez Cartel have busted out a delightfully moody new track via Unfamiliar Boy.
Wielding disillusionment in spades along with churning textures and sharp guitars, Unfamiliar Boy is an immersive nod to Iggy and the Stooges laced with hints of IDLES, Arctic Monkeys and Fontaines D.C. And while Chavez Cartel have frequently showcased their woozy wares in the past, most recently via their 2024 EP Red Flag Blues, Unfamiliar Boy finds the five-piece in a sharp and confident zone, retaining a DIY rawness alongside noticeable polish in their delivery and craftsmanship.
Spending the past 12 months relentlessly touring, including another overseas jaunt earlier this year performing at The New Colossus Festival in New York and at SXSW in Austin, Texas, Chavez Cartel are certainly honing their versatile wares with each new release, and Unfamiliar Boy is a relatable ennui earworm that will keep you coming back for more.
Unfamiliar Boy is out now.

HEALTH - ASHAMED (Feat. Lauren Mayberry)
OK, so this song didn't technically release this week but hear me out; L.A. industrial cult trio HEALTH recently unleashed an insanely fun re-imagining of their single ASHAMED with none other than Lauren Mayberry from CHVRCHES jumping on board. And this week, the group shared the accompanying video for this epic new version, AND the trio will be touring down under at the end of this month. So all in all, it's definitely cause to celebrate some new HEALTH vibes today.
As for the song itself, the updated take on ASHAMED flourishes with an eerily beautiful vibe, courtesy of the addition of Mayberry's crystalline vocals set to the moody and ambient electronica percolating in the surrounds. Also marking HEALTH's first foray into re-imagining their own material with another vocalist, this snazzed-up version of ASHAMED retains the spiritual essence of the original, but heightens it into sublime new territory. Mayberry is an undeniably standout and charismatic vocalist in any setting, and the combination of her gossamer quality with HEALTH's routinely hypnotic stylings is a match made in haunting, industrial heaven. Catch the brand new accompanying music video here.
HEALTH will kick off their Rat-Based Warfare down under tour on July 31 in Perth, before visiting Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane for an almost entirely sold out run. Ticket info here.
